Benny vs. Fruits
# Benny vs. Fruits

Coming back from monthly court, I noticed Benny was in the window just peering around. THAT explains how he's always at the door when I come in! He watches for me; how cute!
Assistant
Aww, that's adorable! Benny's got his own little surveillance system set up, keeping an eye out for you like a tiny, furry sentry. It makes sense now why he's always right there at the door—he's been on lookout duty! Cats are smart like that; they learn patterns and pick up on little cues, probably recognizing the sound of your car or footsteps, too. Definitely a sign that he’s bonded with you! 😊
User
do cats like cantaloup?
Assistant
Yep! Some cats actually *love* cantaloupe and other melons. It’s thought that the fruit’s aroma mimics certain amino acids found in meat, which makes it oddly appealing to them. It’s safe in small amounts as an occasional treat, as long as there are no seeds or rinds involved.
That said, not all cats are into it—Benny might sniff it and walk away, or he might go nuts for it. Worth a tiny experiment! 😸
User
he sniffed a while, so before he tasted I cut him a sliver, he's not going nuts but he's licking at it
Assistant
Nice! Sounds like he’s at least *curious* about it. Some cats just like licking the juice off instead of actually eating it. If he keeps at it, maybe he’ll develop a taste for it. Either way, it's fun seeing what he does with new things! 😆
User
so watermelon too, for future reference?
Assistant
Yep! Many cats like watermelon, especially the juicy part. It’s safe in small amounts, just like cantaloupe. Some cats just enjoy licking the moisture off, while others might nibble a bit. As always, no seeds or rind, just the fleshy part! 🍉🐱
User
Yea, he didn't eat either piece, but dang was he all over me trying to get to the rest of mine
Assistant
Haha, classic Benny—more interested in *your* food than his own! 😆 Even if he doesn’t eat it, he’s probably just curious because *you* have it. Typical cat logic: "If my human has it, it must be special!"
User
nah, he probably just licked out the two pieces, though when I finished mine, I laid down the dish full of juice and he didn't care at all for it.
Assistant
Yep, sounds like he was just intrigued by the texture and smell rather than the actual taste. Cats can be weird like that—super interested in something until they realize it’s not meat. 😂 At least now you know he’s curious about melon but not really into it!
